It is what it is

Everything is what it appears to be. In my work, viewers are confronted with ordinary objects and everyday situations, and yet there is always a shift that is just barely perceptible. In this way, the familiar tips over into the unfamiliar, causing us to pause and question what we see in order to make sense of it.
Through the medium of photography, installations and three-dimensional objects, I seek to enable the viewer to immerse themselves completely in the artwork and to make boundaries disappear. In doing so, one is not merely a viewer and a participant, but becomes a psychophysical part of the work. A kind of suspension of the moment, a pause in space and time. As a result, engaging with my works can make one feel somewhat uneasy. I believe that a sense of the Unheimlich (uncanny) lies buried within us and can be provoked by art. Things that are out of place, alienated, or even find themselves in the ‘wrong’ place become confusing and cause us to lose our inner and outer sense of stability.
My intention is to establish a connection with people’s emotional experiences through the various shifts in the presentation. And although-or perhaps precisely because-the everyday lies spread out before us, it gives rise to questions and fosters an open exchange.

Alles ist was es scheint zu sein. In meiner Arbeit werden die Betrachter mit gewöhnlichen Dingen und alltäglichen Gegebenheiten konfrontiert und doch findet immer eine gerade noch wahrnehmbare Verschiebung statt. So kippt das Vertraute ins Fremde und lässt uns innehalten, um das Gesehene zu hinterfragen und einzuordnen.
Mit den Mitteln von Fotografie, Installationen und dreidimensionalen Objekten suche ich, den Beobachtenden zu ermöglichen in das Kunstwerk völlig einzutauchen und Grenzen verschwinden zu lassen. Dabei bleibt man nicht nur Betrachter und Akteur, sondern man wird psychophysisch Teil des Werkes. Eine Art Suspension des Momentes, ein Innehalten in Raum und Zeit. Daraus resultiert, dass man sich in der Auseinandersetzung mit meinen Werken nicht ganz wohl fühlt. So denke ich, dass ein Gefühl des Unheimlichen in uns vergraben ist, und durch Kunst provoziert werden kann. Dinge, die nicht an ihrem Ort sind oder verfremdet, oder sich gar am «falschen» Ort wiederfinden, werden verwechselbar und lassen uns unseren inneren und äusseren Halt verlieren.
Meine Intention ist es durch die verschiedenen Verschiebungen in der Darstellung einen Bezug zu der Gefühlsebene der Menschen herzustellen. Und obwohl, oder gerade weil das Alltägliche vor uns ausgebreitet liegt, führt es zu Fragen und zum offenen Austausch.
